Tuesday 5th May

Well my return date is now fixed for the 16/17th May only this time I am going over land in a vehicle yet to be purchased!!  How difficult is it to get a 4 x 4 in this credit crunch.  The intention is to get all those things over that easyJet want to charge a fortune in excess baggage to airlift.  Undoubetly there will be things I forget and others that just shouldn't have been taken over in the first place but my sewing machine is essential along with twenty five litres of wood preservative and a submersible pump.  Why?  Those things are so expensive over there and a trip to Ikea is on the cards for essential kitchen items and the pound shop will be able to provide lots of cheap paint brushes that can be disposed of when they start to clog.

I'm advised that the weather in BG is definately not up to standard for the time of year and that England is suffering in the heatwave.  I don't suffer in a heatwave but the weather seems to follow me so I am to be welcomed back.

I have now received a supply of beeswax from a very knowledgeable gentleman (www.honeyshop.co.uk).  I tried to get it in BG but the words when translated didn't mean anything to anyone.  He even advised me that if I followed the recipe by gently heating turps on the stove that it would have the potential to react in a similar fashion to petrol so I decided to modify the recipe.  So tomorrow it's purchasing turps and soap flakes and picking rosemary to make my own soft polish.  Another item on the agenda is Clove soap and this again uses honey.  Check out his website.....there are lots of lovely things that you can purchase and his own polish smells supberb and apparently a little goes a long way.  I like that.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Well I've made the polish following the recipe in the quantities but not the qualities.  Soapflakes are difficult to come by these days.  I suppose no one uses them for handwashing so I grated some soap that had obviously been 'acquired' from an hotel.  The 'mixture' went fairly gloopy but it does work.  I am now the owner of two pots of handmade beeswax polish that no one can use because it is so precious.  Stupid egh.....I am now on the hunt for proper soapflakes to made a better job of it next time.

I think I have my 4x4.  I go to see it on Saturday morning which gives me a week to throw out the things that I should never have put in the 'to go' pile anyway.  Final sifting takes place over the next week ready for the departure and the accompanying documentation is already prepared with sticky labels for each of the packages.  Project management, eat your heart out.

I have had advance notification that the little hill is going to be rather crowded.  I believe this time I am in the caravan and there will be a monumental push to get at least one room suitable for occupation in my grand designs.  First priority...a door with some glass in the window frames and a fence to keep the wildlife out.....water and electricity.  I'm a fully paid up member and now I want some of the benefits.

Well it's one in and one out with technology.  My new monitor arrived yesterday.  My big computer stopped working today so I am down to my netbook since my laptop is in BG  Isn't it always the way.  There was a hot smell in my study and I thought it was just the new monitor but wrong.  This is a short message.  The small keyboard means that I hit about three keys at the same time and it begins to look rather like a good friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) has written it.  The 4x4 viewing is on for tomorrow morning so let's keep our fingers crossed.

I got my 4x4 Mitsubishi Pajero and photos to follow when I get my big machine working again.  My little netbook won't handle reducing the pixels....

Also did the trip to Ikea and got loads of goodies for the kitchen/bathroom in stainless steel.  It's going to take some of the stress out of kitchen building.  Did forget a couple of things though but at least I shall be able to say that I packed the kitchen sink but at just over £14 it was well worth it.

Long day but my old Calibra handled it well and did I make it purr on the motorway.  I was quite surprised that Adrian, the man that sold me the 4x4, was interested in purchasing the Calibra and I suppose at some point I have to make a decision as to what is going to happen to it but for now.....He said that he thought he knew of a good home for it and was surprised at the condition.  Have I looked after it?  Have I hell.............................it's looked after itself me thinks.  Now for an early night..

Here you go.  This is the little beauty that is also going to a new life in BG.  Had a bit of a concern though.  My debit card is now sitting in IKEA in two halves since I left it in the Chip and Pin machine in the store in Southampton on Saturday afternoon.  So much for Chip and Pin being safer!!  I now await a replacement.

And so much for internet banking.  The cash is now winging its way and I should be the proud owner just after lunch so I'm told.  There is no truth in the rumour that it takes three to four working days to press a button.

And after a good luck message from Adrian with a 'Do you want me to come round the block with you' and a swift 'No I'll be fine', the trusty steed is now sitting outside my home and annoying neighbours.  I have yet to get up the courage to bring it into the drive and I'm waiting for school to be out before I start making a mountain out of a molehill.  It's just so big.

This morning I went into town and bought up a supply of cheapy paintbrushes, screws, bolster chisle and wrecker and managed to knock up a bill of £21 in the pound shop.  I got a door mat with Welcome on it but it should be followed by 'Only welcome if you make the occasional cup of coffee and wash up'.  There wasn't room on the mat for all that.

Now I'm trying to stow the goodies in a semi-orderly fashion ready to be packed into the trusty steed for the journey south which should begin either Saturday or Sunday.  My co-pilot has yet to return to the UK from his travels so his word will be my command to action.

Wednesday, May 13th

On this day 37 years ago today I married Rog.  It lasted 10 years and resulted in the two marvellous adults that have filled my life.  Subsequently three adorable grandchildren that cheer my days, sometimes nights with bottles and chatterings and 'taxis' down stairs that have to stop at about eight years old.  The back is not as strong as it used to be but the spirit remains the same.  Where did all those years go?

Today is going to be another 'pick it up, put it down, does it go on this trip day'.  Decisions, decisions so let's make a start.  More later......

Thursday 14th May

Picked up parts for Suzi's MG from the garage and armed with the order number etc. the guy said that there was no need, they only had one 'collect' for Bulgaria.  Fortunately the box is not going to fill the back of the 'beast'.

Called in at Lidls and purchased a workbench, orbital sander and extra disks, ordinary sandpaper and some rather cute little felt pads that you nail to the bottom of furniture to stop it damaging the floor.  Now there's a joke...no furniture yet and not much in the 'floor' line to be a problem.  One of the first jobs is for the men to screed right through so I have them ready for when I might need them.

Stopped off with Angel for lunch and to say cheerio and John provided me with some wind up solar lights that might prove to be very useful before the wiring gets going at the house or while I am 'a guest' in the caravan.  Angela did mention that she wished that she was going with me but that she need completed plumbing before she would venture south.  I reckon that she could be joining me in about a month.  Incomplete roof but a fully functioning shower, toilet and washing machine and not necessarily in that order......girls must be girls.....

Wow you have been a busy honey bee!

I like the Pajero too!! You could have some major fun creating your own parking spaces in that hahah!

Just thought i'd mention i'll be in the Black Sea resort of Nessebar from the 23rd for a week. Now I have no idea of the geography of Bulgaria, so it could be miles and miles away!

Hope you are well... Miss you xx

Mikey B...what a loverly surprise.  I don't know how far you will be away but I'm sure I could get there by hook or by ...whatever else it might need.

So today I went into the pound shop and came out with two goody bags for just over £20.  It's all those things that it would take time to locate in the south of BG and things for the journey of course.  It has been decided that we are now leaving on Monday morning on the early morning ferry from Newhaven.  Of course I have got the brass band organised as a send off, and how dare you question it, and a welcome party the other side.  Bonjour tout le monde.

The Calibra has gone in for its MOT today so we'll see what the garage intend to inflict later....
